CASUAL MIDI DRESS

Choker - eBay, Shirt - Charity Shop, Dress - Topshop, Slip Ons - Topshop

Y'know when you've taken blog pictures, and all bar about one are a complete fudge up? That's me today. I would have just let this outfit go to the realms of the 'not quite good enough' folder lurking on my laptop, but I do quite like to post a lazy, casual outfit every now and then. The kind of outfit when I've sort of made an effort, but gone for comfort over everything else. Admittedly, a lot of the time I don't even go to this much effort.. sometimes a day in pyjamas, with scruffy hair & maybe even last night's make up does just happen! Beauty bloggers I apologise for being completely crap. Ha.

What I went for comfy wise was just an old black midi dress, one of those stretchy ones from Topshop. Stretch material on casual days = YES. We all need a bit of jersey fabric in our lives! I've had this dress for ages but it is a good basic to have, I've worn it glammed up for evenings out then like this for my 'I can't be bothered' days.

Evidently, I'm still wearing that 90s choker almost every day. Have you seen that Topshop actually have them in stores now? They do a few different colours so I think I'll have to stock up!

BABY BLUE & BABY PINK TARTAN

Top - Select, Skirt - New Look (Teen Range), Boots - Boohoo

I've been wearing this skirt far too much. Can New Look just come up with a yellow version so my Cher from Clueless Halloween outfit is sorted?!

Today was supposed to just be a casual day, but I ended up having one of those 'I need to be glam' moments, which resulted in me putting on more make up than I usually would go for. I love using my days off to have a little dress up, even if I'm only off to my Nanna's. My outfit is still quite girly, so I don't think slapping on a bit of extra eyeliner is a total flop.

Bit of a life update - I've just finished another three months interning for a PR agency (onto the scary job hunt now), so if I've been a bit 'AWOL' over that time then that's why. I'm quite proud that I've managed to keep blogging despite working 6 days a week a lot of the time (oh the joys of post-studentdom!).. but I'm looking forward to having a lot more time to put into everything blog wise!

THE SLIP DRESS

Coat - Boohoo, Necklace - Topshop, Turtle Neck - H&M, Slip Dress - Boohoo, Bag - Primark, Boots - Boohoo

Can we just address how windy it was here?! Oh blimey, bring on summer. I thought I'd get this up in the hope that the minute I do it will suddenly be way too hot for turtle necks, tights and a thick coat. Y'know the minute you buy wellies in winter there's going to be no chance of snow, and as soon as you buy a pair of sunglasses the sun disappears.. that's the effect I'm hoping for.

Anyway, I'm looking a wee bit angry here but that's mainly because the wind was blowing my eyelashes back into my head. As I'd filmed a little video on layering up (yep, still having a bash at this whole YouTube thaaang!), I was actually quite toasty in this outfit. I love these slip dresses worn over wardrobe basics.. even though it's shoe string straps it's something I've managed to wear though out these chilly months!

I guess I'm getting to the end of another season blogging wintery outfits.. Ow. As much as I moan about having to wear tights & extra layers, I get to the start of S/S & think 'crap, I've gotta brave getting my legs out and can't wear black everyday'..

NEON & A BOWLER HAT

Hat - H&M, Shirt - Topshop, Kaftan - H&M, Dungarees - Missguided, Boots - c/o La Moda

Catching flies in that last picture.

I'm wearing things here that I've worn in blog posts quite recently, but I guess that's kind of unavoidable on a personal style blog.. you go through phases of wearing things don't you thing? I think I wimped out of wearing the kaftan over summer (mainly because it never got that hot for me to look all tropical and exotic..), but now I've resorted to using it to brighten up all things monochrome. Yep, nobody's going to miss me in H&M's version of a lollipop lady's coat.

The dungarees & bowler hat are both wardrobe staples that I always go back to. Hat wise, I think a little bowler is the best way to get into wearing head stuffs.. it was one of the first hats I owned & I think it started my hat obsession. I'm not saying wearing a hat is totally crazy, but it's one of those things that can make you feel a bit 'out there'. I know I used to feel a tad self conscious at first but now my head feels like it's in the nuddy without one! Gimme a beanie, a bowler or a trilby any day.

TARTAN SKIRT & TOPSHOP SHIRT

Top - Topshop, Coat - H&M, Skirt - H&M, Boots - Topshop

I quite like what I'm wearing today.. despite the fact that I really needed to iron that skirt. My Nanna wouldn't be impressed. Let's just pretend it's all neat and pressed.

The reason I like my outfit is mainly because it's kind of a blend of the two styles I like the most. The '90s Clueless' sort of look I seem to gravitate towards, then something more grown up and smart (that's where the black comes in). I constantly find that I can't decide if I want to spend my life looking girly in pastels, or sophisticated and chic in smart black trousers and heels. This is starting to sound like a First World problems speech, but do you get what I mean?! Today I feel like I've got the mix for both right. A bit of tartan and my favourite choker for the 90s side of things, then the top and slouchy coat to make me feel all swishy. And yes, I've decided that swishy is definitely a feeling.

STYLE JUDGE - THE GRAND NATIONAL!!

So yep, this is all pretty exciting! As most of you know, my life is a little mundane at the minute to say the least, so this is going to quite possibly be my event of the year! Basically, myself & two other bloggers (the faaabulous Prince Cassius & blogging babe Naomi from Two Shoes One Pair) will be taking to Aintree to find the best dressed racegoers on Ladies Day at the Grand National. Super stylish racegoers will be invited to have a picky taken of their outfit, before we each choose our favourite 10 to take to the catwalk. The final vote is a combo of our favourites & a vote on social media.. There's only a holiday worth £10000 and a £250 monthly gift card to spend at Liverpool ONE for a year! Y'know, nothing major! Ha.

I just wanted to quickly fill you in on all this as I will no doubt be blogging, tweeting & Instagramming throughout the day.. it's definitely an excuse to be a 'proper' blogger & take pictures of everything. Friday the 4th of April is the big day so keep an eye out if you're interested in big hats & posh frocks!

Right, on the topic of outfits, I'm off to go have a hunt online for one.. who knew fancy hats were so expensive?! Eek I need a bank loan.

TRAPPER HAT & AN AWKWARD BLOGGING ENCOUNTER

Hat & Gloves - Primark, Jumper, Slip Dress & Boots - Boohoo (Apparently I was having a very 'Boohoo' day!)

You know when you have one of those days when you feel like your life is just a series of very awkward events? Well that was my day.

So yep, the reason we don't have many pictures today is because I quickly scuttled back to my room to hope that the ground would swallow me up. Basically, after a picture taking sesh on my drive (risky at the best of times), I got caught by two old blokes, who then proceeded to ask me to take pictures of them.. they were cute as hell but my days I was dying on the inside.

They probably found it extra hilarious as my outfit here is a little bit odd. After doing my best to tell myself that it's spring & finally warm enough to wear all these little S/S outfits, I caved and admitted that I was perished. BOO. Instead, I dragged out an old hat & mittens set that would have been perfect for the deep dark depths of winter. Now, they're just appropriate for the North.. apparently up here it's determined to stay chilly.

Bit of a ramble there but just thought I'd tell you all about my exceptionally awkward day. Please tell me you all have similar blogging encounters?!

DUNGAREES & PINK ACCESSORIES

Hat - H&M, Top - Topshop, Dungarees - Missguided, Sandals - c/o La Moda

Even though the dungarees craze has probably hit its peak, I still love wearing mine. I've had this black number for a good while now, but it is one of the most versatile pieces in my wardrobe. I've worn it for everything from interviews to casual coffee trips with my Ma. Paired with a shirt for the former & some cozy knit for the latter.. bye bye are the days where dungarees meant looking like a 5 year old from the 90s!

Today I've worn them pretty simple, just going matchy-matchy with the accessories. Matchy-matchy is definitely not a description that's going to make it into the pages of Vogue, but you get what I mean. These baby pink sandals are definitely my favourite shoes at the minute.. La Moda are on point as ever! They're the perfect pastel accompaniment for the candy colours that seem to be everywhere right now.. Topshop is forever making me want an ice cream coloured wardrobe.

DAISY PRINT DRESS & CHUNKY BOOTS

Hat - River Island, Choker - eBay, Dress - c/o Yayer, Boots - c/o La Moda

I'm looking a little bit like a preggo bear here.. the wind was inflating my dress to the point that I thought I was going to have a Marilyn moment & frighten small children in the area. As you can probably tell (let's pretend I'm not covered in goosebumps..) I was being a tad optimistic weather wise & quickly realised that up north, it is still more than a bit nippy. Boo! Very jealous of anyone making the most of sunshine at the minute.. can summer just be now?!

So yeah, I am indeedy trying to embrace S/S style, in the hope that it'll make it feel like warm days are just around the corner. This dress is my start on saying bye bye to winter. I wore daisy print last summer and will happily be doing the same this year. It just has that whole 90s sort of look that makes me think it'd fit right in with the My Mad Fat Diary costume department.. anyone else addicted to that program?! Finn just needs to come marry me now.

Accessories wise, I wanted to get my last bit of wear out of this kitty hat before it's replaced with fedoras and bowlers until October arrives. I'm pretty sure it could make any outfit cutesy.

NEW HAT & SIDE SPLIT SKIRT

Hat - H&M, Sunglasses - H&M, Top - Missguided, Skirt - River Island, Boots - Topshop, Rings - Pandora

I'm once again back indoors. This was mainly do to a small sitch which involved me taking blog pictures & my neighbour pegging out the washing. Awkward doesn't even cut it.. I mean, what was I supposed to do?! Continue posing away to my tripod whilst she pegs out her undies or scuttle off camera in hand trying to pretend she didn't just catch me. I did the latter, and instead ended up pulling a bit of a duck face in my room. We all accidentally do the duck face sometimes right..?!

Anyway, today's post is me wanting to wear my new hat. Would you call this a fedora?! I have so many hats but I'm never actually sure what's called what. This one is kind of like the Boohoo one that I've worn to death, except this one has a larger brim & is flat topped so I don't feel like as much of a cone head when I wear it. I love it.. it's not too 'wow look at me in my fancy hat', but it still makes me feel a tad glam.

As the weather has improved slightly (love that it goes up a matter of degrees and we're all fetching the shorts & sandals out!) I decided it was time to bring out this side split skirt. It's one of my favourites for summer because you can flash a bit of leg without feeling like you're totally overestimating how warm it is (I was..).

OUTFIT LAYOUTS #3

Outfit One
Top - Zara, Necklace - Topshop, Skirt - c/o Lashes of London, Silver Cuffs - H&M, Bracelet - Primark, Boots - c/o La Moda
Outfit Two
Top - c/o Lashes of London, Skirt - As Before, Hat - H&M, Heels - Missguided

This essentially my two ways with the sparkliest of sparkly skirts from Lashes of London. It's like a baby pink glitter ball and that for me is marvellous. Now I just need a night out to get dolled up in Outfit Two.

Unfortunately, as I am Queen of having an insanely boring social life (I've only got dressed into my work uniform for the last two weeks.. sob!), the casual outfit is looking much more likely. To be fair, I actually love this glitzy number paired with the slouchy vest. It's definitely more 'me'.. and by that I mean that at least one item of clothing is as comfy as wearing PJs. I'm such a sucker for wearing something loose, snuggly & not at all flattering.. can someone come make me be glamorous please?!

PINK CHECKS & ROUND SUNGLASSES

Sunglasses - Primark, Choker - eBay, Top - Primark, Coat - Boohoo (similar here), Skirt - New Look (teen's section!), Boots - c/o La Moda

This skirt is my purchase of the month. Mainly because I'd given up ever finding the little tartan number after it had sold out everywhere. Thankfully, I decided on a whim to have a peak in New Look kid's section and managed to find an almost identical one! They actually do some really cute bits in their teen collection.. plus everything is a little bit cheaper than the normal range (the skirt was about £14.99!). Sizes go up to 14-15 which I'd say is easily an 8-10, so it's always worth having a look! I'm going back today

I went all out with the marshmallow pink for the rest of the outfit.. is baby pink the new black?! At the minute, I'm just trying to update my wardrobe with spring colours.. which means I spend half my life in Primark checking if anything new has come in! The quilted top is from there & has become the perfect addition to high waisted trousers, skater skirts & short shorts. I love going in Primark to add new bits to my wardrobe without spending a huge amount of dosh.. the two pieces they've been doing at the minute are my favourites!

DIY FRILLY CONVERSE

Converse & Fabric Glue- c/o USC, Lace - Hobby Craft

Back when I first started blogging, I used to do the odd DIY post. However, as time went on and uni became one big stress, I guess I kind of lost my creative side. Thankfully, I'm now back to my usual ways.. Y'know, saving bits of ribbon for a project you may never get round to?!

This little creative burst came from a DIY challenge set by USC.. basically, the task was to 'doll' up a pair of Converse. As a Converse lover (everyone's got a scruffy old pair lying around right?!), I thought this would be the perfect excuse to put my own stamp on a pair. For me, that meant making them all girly.. combining trainers & my favourite frilly socks to create a frilly Converse hybrid. I'm probably beyond the age when I should be wearing this kind of thing but BOO to being an adult!

Making these was dead easy, so please excuse my (shoddy) Blue Peter esq. tutorial! It's a bit 'stating the obvious' and I'm sure you'd all be fully capable of working it out yourselves but I just thought it was something fun to film.. although I may or may not have ended up with glue on my mum's new bedding (sorry Ma!).

DOUBLE DENIM

Sunglasses - Primark, Denim Jacket - Levi's, Mesh Vest - Missguided, Jeans - Zara, Rings - Pandora, Flatforms - c/o La Moda

I didn't last long in the full outfit I'm wearing here, mainly because I quickly realised it wasn't the most flattering thing I've ever gone for! I decided I felt a bit like a cross between Justin Bieber (those jeans are ratherrr slouchy) and a version of Danny Zuko dressed in white. In the end I swapped for my long H&M black coat & Boohoo heeled boots to return myself to feeling like a girl.

The main reason I ended up looking like a boy today was because I wanted to make use of my Levi jacket. It's been tucked up in the back of my wardrobe over the winter, and seen as it was the results of months of charity shop hunting I felt that it deserved some love. I'm actually thinking of selling it to a home where it is appreciated more as I just don't wear it enough! Maybe I'll see if I can find a few things to pair it with when the warmer weather arrives.

On a different note, my make up is a teeny bit different here. I was having the whole 'day off, I'm going to dress up' kind of afternoon. Y'know, where you're not particularly doing much but you just want to see what you'd look like with a change up to your routine. I had a bash at brown, winged eyeliner (black frightened me a bit too much, I could just see myself getting it all over the place) and actually, stepping out of my smokey eye comfort zone wasn't so bad! I like how simple it is.. although I did become a total perfectionist trying to get that bloody flick just right!

WHITE GRID PRINT & FAUX FUR

Fur Collar - Zara, Coat - Boohoo, Necklace - Topshop, Top - Primark, Jumpsuit - Glamorous, Boots - c/o La Moda, Bag - Primark, Rings - Pandora

Can you tell it was just a little bit windy here? When I say windy, what I actually mean is somewhat like being stuck in a wind tunnel. The kind of day where your breath is blown back into your mouth. Ha. So clearly, I'm not wearing the most practical of outfits. My Ma & Pa had asked if I'd like to go to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park to take some pictures.. only I'd forgot that it is actually quite rough terrain. Basically, the gist of this story is that I looked like a bit of a plonker. I should have worn a waterproof coat, hiking boots & a wooly hat.

I can't really picture myself in hiking boots though, can you?! I guess I have to admit to failing to be practical most of the time. I mean, I'm walking around in baby pink and white in the mud. The jumpsuit is one that doubles up as trousers, I'm always popping a big jumper over it or a little top like the one above.. Especially while the weather means I need an extra layer!

On the coat front, I know a lot of people have been trying to find this Boohoo beauty but it did sell out mega quick. Howeverrr, I've kept my eyes peeled for you & they do keep coming up with similar versions yippee! There's one here & longer version here.. is it bad that I want to order the latter even though it's only about a foot longer than the one I've got?!

I do have some outtakes from this blustery post that I may have to upload at some point.

DEICHMANN X CAROLINE BLOMST COLLECTION - THE OUTFITS

THE SHOPPING TRIP
There's just something about getting dressed up girly for a shopping trip, don't you think?! The tartan skirt has a bit of a 90s vibe to it, but combined with the very current cut out boots I think the outfit ends up being an updated take on a favourite style decade.

THE NIGHT OUT
When these boots arrived, I knew I'd have to include some sort of 'Little Black Dress' outfit. They're the kind of heel that you can wear for work, then shimmy into a little short number for an evening do and look like you've had the day. Chunky jewellery finished everything off for a night of shimmying to Beyonce & co.

THE INTERVIEW
Now, we all want to feel confident in what we're wearing when we're off to an interview.. they're scary at the best of times, without worrying if you've gone for the right option. For me, the best way to give myself a little boost is in heels.. an extra bit of height can work wonders! I've included my favourite perfume & a watch (gotta' be looking like you're a good time keeper in these situations I always think!).

THE DAY WITH THE FAMILY
Nobody wants to be getting the girls and the pins out on a day trip with their Nanna do they?! I've opted for legs out in a classic classic black skirt then made sure everything is toned down with a chunky, oversized knit. I'd be teetering about in the boots for a casual evening and switching to the loafers below for a dressed down day.

 THE BOOTS

So, super blogger Caroline Blomst has come up with a capsule shoe collection for Deichmann, and of course, I've ended up lusting after cut out boots, strappy heels & and lace peep toes aplenty. Caroline's style credentials run from previous collaborations with Vogue (yep, I did just say Vogue) to working as a stylist and model. The collection means that whether you're more of a loafer kind of girl or prefer to spend your life tottering about in heels (*ahem* my 5ft4 self always approves of extra height..), there is something that is sure to become a must have addition to your shoe-drobe.

The competition in conjunction with the launch is something I thought I'd have to a bash at as I love a bit of a 'blog challenge'. It's a chance creative and there's no denying that the prize is a jaw dropping biggie.. definite life changer!

I decided to get extra creative styling wise and go for some classic outfit options.. Y'know, the outfits that we can all relate to (The Shopping Outfit is one I have to put together more than I should..). I styled these outfits up with the Peep Toe High Front Boot - my 'pick' from the collection. For me, they're the right style to wear for both day and night.. dressed down with slouchy knits for day & dressed up with glitzy jewellery for an evening out.

I've popped a few more of my favourites from the collection below. Actually, I think any of these styles could be paired with plenty of the outfits above. Is that perhaps justification to buy them all?!

Buckled Court - £24.99, Loafer - £17.99, Peep Toe High Front Lace Boot - £27.99
