THREE WAYS TO WEAR A CAMEL COAT

So, I'm late to the camel coat party. I know the Kimye inspired coat has been doing the rounds for well over a year, but I still think it's a quite a classic style so I'm okay with being behind the times. I didn't mind   spending on this one anyway as it was only £30... I don't think that's bad even if I only get one winter out of it. Good old Primark. The outfits below are just a few ways I'll be wearing it - pretty casual, and sticking to mostly monochrome.

The 'How I Wear' video at the bottom of the page as all the outfit details & extra info!
Something a bit girly to start with - I love this little skirt for a break from the boyish look I seem to go for regularly. This one I'd probably wear for popping out for lunch or something... It feels smart enough without being too dressy.

I had to have an all grey outfit. Grey & camel together is one of my favourite combinations. I just feel like they go really well together, keeping it neutral without sticking to something all black.

Okay, so I did go for a black outfit too. It's just such a simple option, and I feel like this is a good way to make it all about the coat. The jumper was one I picked up in Primark while I was buying the coat - it's ridiculously fluffy... Perfect for snuggling up in.

FEELING FESTIVE: CHRISTMAS SPENDING

Jumper - c/o Wildfox
I feel like this is one of those really Christmassy days that I'll look back on when the festivities are all over and remember as a really lovely time. I'd headed off with my Ma for a day of Christmas shopping at McArthur Glen East Midlands - it's our local designer outlet although we'd never actually been before - exciting stuff. We picked up the last of our Christmas presents ( feeling so organised, this never happens) before a lunch time pit stop at Pizza Express. Pizza is everything.

I'll be sharing my gift ideas for the girly ones in the family soon (I don't actually have that many menfolk to buy for), as I managed to get some lovely bits I can't wait to give out! I also picked up a couple of early presents to myself - keep an eye out for those on Instagram, Twitter or Snapchat (fashioninflux). And there I am sounding not at all social media obsessed...

REASONS TO LOVE BLOGGING

There are plenty of reasons why starting a blog is a great idea, so in contrast to my usual moan about blogging (admittedly, I like a good moan about anything), I thought it was time for some real blogging positivity, because really... blogging is pretty nice. For me, these are just a few reasons to remember why even with its faults, blogging is a good egg.

It’s a massive confidence boost.
Getting a few views, a RT, or a nice message from someone about your latest post can do your confidence the world of good. ‘You mean, someone actually cares about this crap I’m writing?!’… Uhhuh, they do. Blogging has given me a lot more confidence in my abilities, as well as making me more confident in general.

You can be exactly who you want to be.
The big ol’ world can be a scary place to fly your freak flag, or strut your stuff like you’re Team Sassy. On the Internet I just think it’s easier to work on being the sort of person you’d like to be… Before you build up to unleashing your inner Honey Boo Boo on the rest of the world.

It’s fun.
Would we bother taking pictures in sub zero temperatures if part of it wasn’t? As much as I love a whinge about my day-to-day blogging disasters, I still find it creative and fun and the good kind of bonkers.

You meet lovely people.
Meeting people through blogging is one of the loveliest things. It’s like finding your spirit child, who actually gets all these things you’re interested in and wants to discuss them with you. Happy days.

It’s actually impressive.
You know what, most people don't actually find blogging dorky. When I initially braved telling a few people about my blog, I thought it’d be some source of amusement. In fact, most people think it’s pretty cool. You're doing something off your own back and you're working hard at it. These days I always big up my blog, having one should be impressive… I treat it like I gave birth to it after all.

You’re actually being useful to someone out there.
Thank god for the review on the ultimate oily skin foundation, the OOTD that provided some outfit inspo and the Tweet letting us know that those dreamboat Topshop boots are now on sale. We may not be fighting world peace, but us bloggers definitely come in handy.

You never know what’s next.
Hey, maybe the Jeffrey Campbell Litas will make a comeback or we'll all decide that Instagram is crap?! Maybe not, but who knows? You have no idea what direction blogging will go next or where blogging could take you. I always find that really exciting for keeping motivated.

You can define your own ‘success’.
Scrap defining success. Sod success. Trying to be a 'successful' blogger is so difficult, because how do you even decide what success is?! When I stop thinking about it, I love blogging a little bit more. I feel like you lose touch with what you’re doing if it’s too focused on how many followers you’ve got or how many views per post you’re receiving. I love that I can define my own success. This year I managed to travel by myself for a small oversees blogging trip…  For me, I feel like that’s a big success (mainly because I’d rather wear Crocs & socks for the rest of eternity than get on a plane).

You’re always learning.
Cliché, but I do learn something new every day with blogging. Whether I finally suss out what the F-stop means, or that there’s a handy IFTTT recipe to make life easier, there’s always something new to pick up along the way. It’s a big learning process & I’m happy to sponge all that up.

Perks
There are perks. We don’t need to dance around the subject like it’s some sort of Voldemort-y unsaid thing. There are plenty of perks to blogging and we all know it. Whether it’s the odd freebie or a trip to a nice event, it’s something blogging can lead to and I’m not going to lie and pretend it’s bloody awful. It’s not. Having said that, it’s not the be all and end all. It’s lovely along the way, but it’s not integral to why I blog.

COWL NECK & A MIDI LENGTH

Sunglasses - Céline, Jumper - Matalan, Bag - Boohoo, Skirt - H&M, Lace Up Sandals - Public Desire
This weekend has been the official 'it's too cold to not wear tights' marker. I did try venturing out today in a skirt and long coat, but eventually I decided I was being optimistic and got my 40 deniers out. Sigh. These pictures were from a couple of weeks ago when it was more autumnal than wintery - it wasn't particularly cold so I managed in the pencil skirt and cowl neck. I reckon when I wear this skirt again I'll just stick my thigh highs underneath it and see how that goes.. Avoiding tights at all costs.

The jumper is one I've been loving a whole lot since I bought it. It was just a cheap one from Matalan, but it's the sort of easy go-to when I'm rushing around to get ready for work. I love that this time of year is basically just lobbing a big jumper on. For me it is anyway. I just have this sort of thing on a rotate! Always ready to up the cosy factor.

THE CHLOÉ FAYE EBAY DUPE

via eBay
The Chloé Faye seems to be the 'it' bag right now. Understandably so... It is freeeeaking fabulous. If you're like me though, you'd have to sell your left kidney to get one. Actually, I'd probably need to sell the right one too. Instead, I was on the hunt for an 'inspired' style.

This one I found on eBay for £17.90 after searching 'chain satchel'. It took a bit of a hunt, but the Gods of cheap eBay crap eventually delivered. It's also from a UK seller so no waiting 6 months for it to arrive from the other side of the world! Don't get me wrong, it's quite clearly not a Chloé handbag - you can't expect incredible quality for under 20 quid, but it will certainly last me this season. It's not a carbon copy either (there's a Jessica Buurman version I'm tempted by that's much more of a likeness) but if anything, I'm happy with something that isn't an exact match. I don't want a handbag that looks like I'm actually trying to pass off a fake as the legit version, or seem like I've unknowingly thought I've got £1500 handbag for the bargain of £50, you know? I'd rather it just be something along the lines of the Faye look, not an 'is it? or isn't it?' sort of thing. To be honest, no one in my local area of mostly 70+ even knows what a bloody Chloé Faye bag is.

I know dupes aren't for everyone, and if someone delivered a Chloé bag shaped baby I would be happy to adopt, but for now, there's no chance I'll be spending nearly 2k on an accessory. Sigh... One day!

Now is anyone can find one with silver hardware then hook me up - I don't normally wear gold, but for £17.90 I can cope.

DAYTIME SMOKEY EYE

After adding a few new makeup bits to my life recently, I thought it might be a good time to film a makeup video. I'll probably review a few of these products properly, but I'm thinking this is more of a 'first impressions' sort of thing.

This is my usual sort of look on an everyday basis... A smokey eye is about all I can manage. You don't have to be quite so precise as you do with the likes of winged liner (oh how I wish I could master it, but to me it's like witchcraft). I was probably most excited about trying the new NARS Steven Klein palette - aren't the colours so pretty? Gorgeous shades for this time of year. I feel like it's one I'll be reaching for over the festive season.

Anyway, I'm off to a pole dancing exercise class now (don't ask), so I better be on my way. All product details are listed in the video below!

MOM JEANS & POINTED FLATS

Jacket - H&M, Top - Primark, Jeans - Topshop, Flats - Topshop

Mom Jeans were probably last year's thing, but I still like this pair because they're comfy and they're about the only pair I can get in without the worry that I may or may not now be too chubby for them. That's mainly because they started a size too big, but either way, they're my 'I cba to vacuum pack myself in my black skinnies' jeans.

We took these pictures just before a quick trip to town. I don't know when I became one of those people that feels like a weekend isn't a weekend unless I've been out for coffee, but it definitely happened. Is it a twenties thing? Is this what we do? Anyway, a quick trip to Costa (-fortune, as my Pa calls it) makes a nice break in-between getting some blog work done.

The pointed flats I'm wearing are that really cheap version from Topshop. I went for those as I really need to force myself to wear something other than my adidas Superstars on days off (they're the comfiest, ever). I do like these for casual days, they're cute and they don't rub my feet to bits, but I think I'll need to invest in a studier pair for winter. Oh how the Celine version would make my life!

NEW IN | MAKEUP, MIRRORS & OTHER RANDOM PURCHASES

With payday less than two weeks gone, I'm at that stage in the month where I have nice new makeup, yet I need to survive on crisp sarnies for another 14+ days. Priorities. I've picked up a few makeup bits recently that I wanted to give a go, as well as some other random additions I thought I'd share with you. Now someone put me on a spending ban. Faaaanks.

Wunderbrow
I bought this after seeing one Instagram post. One freaking Instagram post! Ugh. I'm majorly influenced by social media, but I haven't tried a new brow product in a while so what the heck. So far I'm glad I picked this up as I've been really impressed with it. It lasts all day. And I actually mean all day, even with a sweaty forehead situation and through the occasional need to scratch my brow area. I think I'll do a proper review on it when I've given it a go, if anyone would be interested?

Notebook - TK Maxx
In my opinion, there's no such thing as too many notebooks. I actually bought one from TK Maxx a few weeks ago that's almost identical to this other than being gold. They're both leather with a really simple design, the sort of thing I love. I'm yet to start writing in either of them but I'm saving them for when I'm feeling inspired, rather than using them for the boring big food shop list. This patent black version had to come home with me.

Socks - TK Maxx
Really, I just needed socks, and the fact these are Calvin Klein didn't really matter. To me, socks are socks... But these are grey and soft and that'll do for me.

Chanel Cream Blush - Cheeky
It was pretty and I wanted it. Nothing else. Sorry. Ha. Well, I guess I haven't bought a blush in forever so I did think it'd be a nice addition to my makeup collection. It's a brownish pink, perfect for going with the neutrals I usually opt for. I'm going to give it a proper try over the weekend so I'll keep you updated.

Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet Foundation
I've used Estée Lauder Double Wear so religiously over the last few years that recently, I've been trying recently to give a few new options a go. With this one I just loved how it felt when I tested it out. Really velvety without being too heavy. I wouldn't say it's revolutionised my life yet, but I'm loving it as a matte option.

Mirror - Argos
I guess a mirror might not be of interest to everyone, but if you're like me (vain.. LOL I'm partly joking) and take outfit pictures a lot then it may be relevant. Basically if you're into blogging. This was only £59.99 which I didn't think was bad. I mostly went for it because it's wide - I needed something with enough width to only really show what's behind me, not behind the mirror, if you get what me mean? Right now I haven't really got enough room for it, but it'll be nice when I've got my own place.

BLUE JEANS CASUAL

Hat - Just An Oldie, Coat - Boohoo, Top - Primark, Jeans - Miss Selfridge, Trainers - adidas Superstar, Bag - Paul's Boutique
I'm back to wearing this coat again. I got it last winter and wore it way more than I should. To be honest, it was just a cheap option I went for as I really didn't need a new coat, but it ended up being my go to throughout the colder months. Longer coats are just so much warmer! I'm wanting to get a slightly better quality version of this just so it can last me winters beyond (I feel like I've destroyed this one a bit..). A long, wool coat sounds like a good investment piece. Maybe I'll find one in the January sales. Parting with a  good chunk of money might be a little easier if I at least feel like I'm getting a good deal. Spending money does kill me a bit inside. Ha.

I just took these pictures on a trip to my Nannas, hence why I'm pretty casual here. She was actually hanging out her flat window watching me while my Ma snapped away... This blogging thaaang is becoming a bit of a family affair. I always like taking pictures with my mum though, it's a good excuse for us to have a wander somewhere pretty.

FEELING THE BLOGGING PRESSURE

Blogging has changed so much since I first started. I think even if you only started blogging 6 months ago, you’ll have seen it alter along the way. For me, I started with seriously blurry pictures, wearing whatever outfit I’d thrown on that morning, all uploaded straight from my phone (it could have even been a flip phone… Christ). Just like the blogging world in general, my blog developed, and mostly that’s a really nice thing… It’s good to see how far you’ve come!

With that though, I feel like a whole load of pressure has been added to bloggers. Blogger outreach is constantly increasing in popularity, and as a result what’s expected of us is greater than ever. We need to go find aesthetic looking backgrounds, have a good social presence and write well. We’re meant to understand the business-y side of it (I don’t) and be organised (I struggle) and reply to emails (I’m working on this one).  What we’re not meant to do is include the odd typo or add in the wrong picture or forget to include a link in the Tweet. Duh. But we do… Do we?! Or am I just rubbish?!

It’s not like any of this has been explicitly stated, but for me I feel it’s now implied... Even though a lot of us do this as a hobby, learning along the way. There is no school for blogging. Even those of us that do it full time are learning as we go. With so many paid/sponsored opportunities for bloggers it is understandable that quality is expected, but for me, blogging isn’t about coming up with something that could go in Vogue. If it was, then it might as well be in bloody Vogue. We aren’t photographers, nor models or stylists.

For now and the future, I’m just going to do what’s right for me. I don’t want to add pressure to myself worrying about what I ‘should’ be doing. I want to work hard on my blog, but I don’t want to stress out over what isn’t all that important... E.g. ‘so & so has drop down menus.. Do I need drop down menus?! Do we all have drop down menus now?!’. Y’know, it’s normal to compare, but it is so silly and pointless.

So there we go. How I’m feeling towards beating the blogging pressure. I hope this doesn’t sound too rant-y towards blogging in general. On the whole, I do appreciate that having a blog is brilliant. This was just something I wanted to chat about. Anyone else feel this way sometimes?!

INVESTMENT PIECES FOR AUTUMN/WINTER

Leather Gloves / Faux Fur Collar / Leather Jacket / Wool Overcoat / Wool Scarf / Black Boots / Tan Cardigan / Chunky Knit / Embellished LBD

Although I am the sort that needs a lie down after buying more than one thing in Topshop, I do feel more swayed into quality over quantity these days. Rather than too many cheap, trend led pieces that I won't get much wear out of,  I'd rather have a few classics that I know will last me a good few seasons.

I think autumn is definitely a good time to invest in that sort of thing. An extra soft knit, a LBD to see you through a range of festive shindigs, boots that go with every freaking outfit. They're my sort of investment pieces... I tick off the winter essentials for turning up the cosy factor (the big wool coat and gloves, that sort of thing), before going for a few statement styles to livening up my look over A/W (the leather biker jacket and Great Gatsby style faux fur). I guess there's no huge shock that I go for monochrome and neutral tones, but I think when you're spending a few extra pennies you want it to be something you'll get plenty of wear out of. As much as the bright pink fuzzy jumper may appeal to my inner Cher from Clueless, I know I'd probably wear it once then have no idea what to do with it!

Off now to add the Moschino scarf and Warehouse cardigan (obsessed with the colour) to my Christmas list... There's only 7 Fridays to go until the big day after all!

WEARING THE BASIC BLACK TROUSER

Faux Fur Scarf - ZARA, Jacket - Boohoo, Shirt - Charity Shop, Trousers - H&M, Boots - Forever 21

This day was one of the loveliest times. We weren’t doing anything too exciting, just off out for a family lunch, but it was just my sort of autumn day. A comforting Sunday dinner, walking it off in a local park, before finishing the day back at home with a good film. If you haven’t realised yet, I’m not much of a party girl... I’m more the sort that just likes to potter between coffee shops.

My brother’s girlfriend actually took these pictures. I’m already working on enlisting her as my full time photographer ha! The only problem is she lives in Finland, so I’m going to have to get her taking bulk blog pictures while she’s in the UK... It’s always nice to have someone around to help out, especially when they get the whole blogging thing.

So here I’m wearing that Boohoo jacket… Again. It’s just a way for me to bid bye bye to a boring black coat. I’d usually go for my leather jacket, but I prefer this one for brightening it up a bit. With just black trousers and a shirt underneath, I was worried too much black might make me look like a waitress. The trousers I picked up in H&M a few weeks ago. They’re really basic, but go well for work and days off with casual shoes. I've got similar styles, but in my opinion you can never have too many pairs of black trousers/jeans!
