MAKEUP... WITH AN APP

Image
There’s nothing worse than getting that dreamy looking lipstick home to try it on and realize it actually makes you look like death warmed up. The same goes when you copy that fabulous YouTube tutorial before deciding purple ombre lips with a smokey eye just aint your thing. Gone are the days, thanks to the L’Oreal Paris Makeup Genius App I’ve been trying out over the last few weeks… If you’re a lover of all things makeup, it’s one to head over and download! Basically, the app scans in your face using your phone camera for some virtual reality goodness, meaning you can try out L’Oreal Paris’ products all in the app itself, as they’d look on your face. Your real life face. There and then. As it moves and stuff. Isn’t that a cool idea?! I love that technology means I can now sit in my pyjamas with no makeup on and still take a selfie. What a world. There’s a whole range of makeup looks to flick through, as well as individual products to put to the te...

NEW IN: BENEFIT OPERATION PORE PROOF

Image
Benefit Operation Pore Proof Benefit have just launched their Operation Pore Proof kit and with my pores having the  tendency  to take over my face, I thought it'd be a great one to try out. Especially at this time of year.. This gal is shiiiine central. With 5 minis in this box of treats there's plenty to try out if you're looking to deal with shine and pore problems. One of the cult products in there is the Porefessional primer, a product I've used before and loved - it's not too balmy like I find with some other primers and quickly mops up excess oil. I like that it has a bit of colour too so it doesn't just feel like you're slapping a load of silicone stuffs on your chops. I wouldn't use it every day, but when I'm really wanting my makeup to 'set' then this is a go-to. The License to Blot is another favourite, mostly because I'm surprised that it actually works both under and over makeup, without being cakey or smudg...

FAVOURITE MAC NUDES

Image
Even though I try to add a bit of colour to my lipstick life, I can't help but go back to a good nude. I'm always a bit 'matchy-matchy', so generally I like a lipstick to go with what I'm wearing.. With nude I think that natural sort of thing always seems to 'go'? I know everyone's a bit obsessed with MAC for lippy, but I do on a whole love them. Anyhoo.. Here are a few that I'm always reaching for! L-R  Viva Glam II I think this is quite a greyish nude.. Maybe a little cooler?  Kinda Sexy The perfect nudey-pink. I generally prefer brown toned nudes, but if I'm feeling something a little more feminine then this is a go-to. Please Me Well, this is probably more pink than nude. I usually just dab it on over another lippy though. I don't wear it often with being a bit of a pink wimp, but I think it's a nice one to have.  Velvet Teddy I lusted after this one for a while with it always being sold out. I do lo...

BEAUTY UPDATE WITH BOBBI BROWN

Image
I say update.. I've been on this whole overhauling my makeup collection thaaang for a good while now and I'm still not getting close to bored. Whether it's a new lippy, a primer that's going to make sure the pores bugger off or the powder to and all powders, it's probably on my lust list. Most recently I've been heading to get dreamy eyes at the Bobbi Brown counter. I think it's mainly that the packaging is  so  right. Simple, all black, looks popped in my handbag - y'know, all the major points for building up a pretty makeup collection. My last purchases involved powders and all things shimmer.. Loverrrrly.  Sheer Finish Pressed Powder (Soft Sand) My face and a overly shiny t-zone are pretty much BFFs. Not great. I'm always on the hunt for something that's going to blot it all out without ending up with that mood depressing cakey face. This one I'm liking as it's pigmented enough to actually do something - sometimes I feel lik...

WARM TONED MAKEUP RUN THROUGH

Image
*All details in video below Yikes. I uploaded this warm toned makeup look a couple of days ago on YouTube and while I was at it, I thought it'd be a good time to do this 'before and after' shot. As nice as it would be, none of us wake up with the perfect smokey eye or brows preened within an inch of their life. There are things to help out along the way (makeup, good lighting, a camera that doesn't betray you, y'know?) but I'm definitely not kidding myself that the Instagram selfie is a complete reality of my face - I have spots, blotchy parts, an oily t-zone and lips that aren't at all symmetrical, but mehhh!  Anyway, the video below goes through the whole process. Thank the lord for cosmetics & Instagram filters right?!  youtube / bloglovin / twitter / facebook / pinterest / tumblr / instagram x

FINDING BLUSH AGAIN

Image
MAC Blush in Happy Together, Mocha & Prism, Illamasqua Cream Blush (think this colour may have been discontinued - closest is probably 'Laid') I say finding blush again due to the fact I probably haven't used the stuff for a good two years. It could be the fear of having the Bridget Jones moment, but I think it's more down to the fact I'd found bronzer. To me, bronzer is blush (I'm aware I'm quite probably a beauty blogger's nightmare).. But I always found a   bronzed up glow a lot easier to wear than flushed cheeks.  Since forcing myself to get back into makeup (I was definitely stuck in a cosmetics rut) I have discovered that  blush isn't this scary, pinky hued thing that is about to give my a flushed Father Christmas esq face. I've been keeping it light and sticking mostly to the more neutral tones as a bit of a safety blanket, but I think blush is my next 'thing'.. Y'know, when you suddenly become obsessed with l...
