BLOGGING TIPS | THINGS TO REMEMBER

I think we’ve mostly clocked onto the fact that blogger tips are a bit of a thing. Don’t get me wrong – I freaking love them. I’ve learnt a lot reading them, and always love to hear the sneaky bits of info that can make blogging life easier. How to use Google Analytics properly, better ways to take fancy looking product shots… all sorts of stuff. I’ve also really enjoyed writing them myself – I love sharing all this relatable crap, and they are some of my most popular posts.

Having said that, I do think there’s a bit of a need to ‘chill’ when it comes to posts on blogging tips. I’m talking more in the respect that any tip is just advice, rather than a one-track route for success. It’s something I’m aware of when I’m writing this sort of post – sometimes I feel like I need a disclaimer saying ‘this has helped, but it wasn’t everything’. We’re all caught up in ‘how tos’ and ’10 ways to’ and ‘things to’. Ha… See what I mean?! Really, there’s way more to it than a simple list of tips. I do think this resonates with a lot of us blogging folk – we can all share our little bits of advice, but there’s so much more to it than just that.

I’m in no way a mega blogger, but I’ll happily admit that a lot of the opportunities I’ve had have come through luck. Yeah, I’ve worked bloody hard – I still work full time while managing my blog, which essentially takes up the majority of my weekends & evenings. But still, I know being in the right place at the right time has played a huge roll. It’s been a combination of factors that have helped me achieve what I have through blogging, and not just that I got my sh*t together with HTML or worked out how to be savvy on social. Someone dropping out of a campaign last minute, a contact getting in touch at the right time, starting up on a social network as it starts to get big – there are so many little things that can come into play.

While I do think blog tips are brilliant, I think most of us know that they’re not everything. In no way do I think top bloggers have got to where they have through luck alone (I can only imagine their schedules & workload!) but then I also don’t think their success is a result of reading ten tips. There are a whole load of factors which come into play, some of which we have no control over. I guess to some that could sound disheartening, but I think it’s pretty exciting… You never know what’s around the corner with blogging or where it could lead.

What I want to finish with saying (without this turning into another blogger tips post!) is don’t be afraid to do something differently, just because it isn’t what folk have found has worked previously. If you don’t want an Instagram theme, sod the Instagram theme. If I’ve been raving about checking Google Analytics, that doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong if you haven’t been on it for months. It’s well worth stocking up on blogging info, but then I think it's equally as important to suss out what works well for you.

So, bit of a long and rambly one. It’s something I’ve been wanting to mention for a while, but it’s really hard to put into words?! Anyway, hope that’s made sense!
