PREPPING FOR BARE LEG SEASON
Really, my legs
haven’t seen much love since September time. Post summer, I rejoice in being
able to neglect things a little – I’m happy to enter another realm of pale as
it gets to tights season! When the sun finally shows its face again, my legs
are definitely in need of some TLC. Not only that, but it takes me a while to
get my head around having more flesh on show… ‘You mean I can’t spend forever
in a turtle neck and jeans?’. Yup, warmer temps means braving it.
For building up to
bare leg season, I crack on with some emergency prep.
Pamper Those Pins
Time to lob the
laddered tights and face what’s underneath. Yeeesh. To start, I make sure I
exfoliate within an inch of my life. Any sort of sugar scrub should do the
trick, but Let The Good Times Roll by Lush is my most-loved. I still tackle
shaving, but over the last few months I’ve also been using my Philips LumeaHair Removal System – it’s not essential, but gosh life is easier fuzz free! It
takes some perseverance to get results, but it’s definitely worth it.
Recently I’ve been
tanning up a bit, going gradual with the Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow
Booster – I can use as little or as much of this as I like, depending on how
much of a glow I’m after. For now I just use a few drops once or twice a week… It
just takes the edge off that Daz white look.
To finish I go for
Molton Brown Coco & Sandalwood Body Lotion. I’m mostly in love with this
fragrance, but it does hydrate skin really quickly. If I’m heading out
somewhere nice I may add some of No. 7’s Silky Leg Oil too – this just makes my
legs look extra smooth and soft. This routine isn’t something I religiously
use, but it’s a good start for getting your pins back in shape.
Find A Comfortable Fit
When it comes to baring
your legs, I think the best place to start is with a comfortable fitting bottom
half. I’m talking both figuratively and literally – something that feels good
on, but also something you feel confident in. For me, that ain’t a tight mini skirt.
I’m much happier in looser, light fabrics, and tend to opt for shorts to start
with – I just feel better when I haven’t also got the worry of flashing my
knicks. The slightly oversized pair I’m wearing here are also a dream for
avoiding feeling like I’m busting out of something skimpy. I’m all about small
steps, not hopping straight into Kylie Minogue gold hot pants.
Give Yourself A
Talking To
You know that tiny
person in your head that tells you you’ve got thunder thighs? Just stomp that
little sh*t out of your mind. I know, easier said than done. It doesn’t matter
what shape or size you are, any form of flashing flesh can be daunting. There
have been times when I’ve melted in a maxi dress, just to avoid showing my
cellulite. I find forcing myself to stop the negative thoughts in their tracks
has helped, pushing the positive to the forefront of my mind instead. Yeah, the
backs of my legs can be a bit ‘undercooked dumpling’, but my skin is soft and silky
post pamper sesh. If you’re really struggling, head onto Pinterest to find a few ways that work for your body shape – I’m always searching
‘outfits for short legs’… Ha. Getting some inspo on looks that’ll work for you
can be a good boost.
