THREE LAST MINUTE CHRISTMAS PARTY DRESSES

Image
Who isn’t a lover of a sparkly frock?! Okay, plenty of people, but even though I spend my life in all black, I’m still a fan of something glitzy. Christmas is a whole other ball game, and finding the perfect dress not only involves sourcing something occasion appropriate that suits you, but also something that feels a little festive. It’s not like red with a white fur trim is a must, but I do like something that makes me feel Christmassy… I can wear a bog standard LBD at any point in the year! For last minute options I’ve got three super sparkly numbers that can help you up the glam levels at the Christmas do. Motel Rocks Finn Slip Dress Okay, this is my most naaakud. It’s Christmas though, and if you can’t flash a bit of side boob at Christmas when can you?! Yup, you’re going to freeze your nips off, but you’re going to look like the twinkly star of Bethlehem on your night out. For dressing it down a little I think it’s perfect worn with a leather jacket and ankle boots....

ROYAL ASCOT WITH NEXT | LADIES DAY OUTFIT

Image
Heading to the races is probably one of my favourite things. Despite being more of casual dresser, I flipping love putting on a fancy frock for a girly day out. I’d never been to Ascot, so when Next asked if I’d like to head along with a few blogging ladies I was majorly up for it! I feel like Ascot is one of those schmancy days out that I’d have probably never got round to, so I’m extra happy that I’ve ticked it off the bucket list.  Outfit planning for this was pretty major. It took me a lot of uhhming & ahhing on the Next website , but eventually I decided on navy and dusky pink. I sort of felt like I should go for something summery, but this kind of look is way more ‘me’. It’s nothing out there, but it feels quite classic and feminine. Also… Can you believe the dress is only £38?! I’m so glad I went for it! It fit really well and I know it’s something I’ll wear again. The shoes and bag felt like a good contrast, while the hat was another bargain… £9 off ...

SPRING DAYTIME GET READY WITH ME

Image
Ahem. Bare legs. Okay, it didn't last long. I did have to throw over a jumper and a longer coat, but I was determined this weekend would be a chance for my legs to see sunlight again. I'm so ready for the warmer days!  I'd not actually worn this dress before - it's relatively new, but I couldn't face having to stick it with tights. I guess it is the sort I could wear on an evening out, but I love this sort of thing dressed down with trainers. It feels really girly, without being too dolled up.  Hair & makeup also ended up being quite feminine. I went pretty natural apart from the pinkish lip - that shade is one of my favourites right now. Hair was an undo as my locks were probably 90% dry shampoo today... I'm trying to stop washing my hair everyday as I know it's really stripping it! Anyway, I'm off for a Lush bath now as I've spent all day faffing about editing this one - I was filming at 8am and we're live by 6pm. For...

THE ALTERNATIVE WINTER ESSENTIAL

Image
With a couple of months of wintery-ness to go, I still can’t stop purchasing all things cozy. As much as I prefer summer, I do enjoy getting all wrapped up and snuggly in a fluffy knit. Clothing that makes me feel like I’m tucked up in fluffy pyjamas is my idea of happiness. This dress is one of my most recent, winter purchases. I got it in H&M for £29.99 and I’m so glad! I’ve got nothing like this in my wardrobe – probably because it is more of a statement piece… It’s not like we all have a rack of ankle length, knitted dresses. Although, that does sound like quite a nice life. I’m calling this one my alternative winter essential, because I do think it’s completely appropriate for the season, yet it still feels on trend? Basically, it doesn’t make me feel like I’m wrapped up like the Michelin Man, but I’m still ready to take on goose pimple inducing temperatures. Since I added it to my life I’ve worn it like this (more dressed up, something I could wear for hea...

ADDING AUTUMN COLOUR

Image
So I've gone for a bit of a change up, photography wise. I've been wanting to make some alterations to the blog for a  while now (anyone else get regularly decide they want to completely change their blog and start again!?), so working on being a bit braver when it comes to blog photography is my first baby step. I used to really enjoy doing it, but I guess I just got out of the habit and over time decided I was too wimpy to once again stand in the middle of the street to get blog pictures, while random folk wonder what the heck you're doing. For these I had my ma on hand to snap away, but I've also had my brother's girlfriend helping out, so we'll see how we go! As much as outfit photography can drive me mad, I do like that it's a bit of a learning curve. So... I'm wearing colour here and I actually like it. I picked this dress up from Matalan over the weekend for £9, bit of a steal. It's pretty simple, but the kind ...

GETTING GIRLY

Image
Hat - H&M, Dress - ZARA, Boots - Deichmann I had that whole 'I dress like a boy' moment over the weekend. Y'know, when you've got into that whole rut with wearing jeans every day of your life and the girly side is calling out to you. With that I stuck a dress on and went off to buy the most feminine top (it has daisies on) and skirt I could find. Now it's a little warmer I'm just ready to get rid of the trousers/top combo. Having said that, I did stick to my somewhat boyish boots. Little dresses like this with black boots will always be one of my favourites. youtube / bloglovin / twitter / facebook / pinterest / tumblr / instagram x

SNOW DAY

Image
Hat - c/o Amelia Jane London , Scarf - c/o Boohoo , Coat - c/o Boohoo , Dress - Primark, Boots - Oldies Up Sheffield way, we missed a white Christmas by one day! So close, but a nice way to stay festive. Thankfully I was still off work, which meant I could actually go out and enjoy it, without having to worry about the commute.  I didn't take any chances and wrapped up in plenty of layers. I'm liking this whole 'knee high boots & longer dresses thaang', so I thought that'd be the perfect way to keep cosy. I think it looks better with heeled boots, but there was no way I was risking that. Plus I'd have looked like a total fruit bat. Accessories wise I went for the extra snuggly ones. The scarf wraps round like a huge blanket and that hat is just my current favourite. Right, I'm off.. Mainly because I currently struggle to come on the internet without wanting to do some more sales shopping. Staaahhp Lydia!  youtube  /  bl...

DAISY PRINT DRESS & CHUNKY BOOTS

Image
Hat - River Island, Choker - eBay, Dress - c/o Yayer , Boots - c/o La Moda I'm looking a little bit like a preggo bear here.. the wind was inflating my dress to the point that I thought I was going to have a Marilyn moment & frighten small children in the area. As you can probably tell (let's pretend I'm not covered in goosebumps..) I was being a tad optimistic weather wise & quickly realised that up north, it is still more than a bit nippy. Boo! Very jealous of anyone making the most of sunshine at the minute.. can summer just be now?! So yeah, I am indeedy trying to embrace S/S style, in the hope that it'll make it feel like warm days are just around the corner. This dress is my start on saying bye bye to winter. I wore daisy print last summer and will happily be doing the same this year. It just has that whole 90s sort of look that makes me think it'd fit right in with the My Mad Fat Diary costume department.. anyone else addicted to that...
